Industrial Paint Technical Documents

Get the correct documentation for the actual coating and aerosol product quoted for your application.

Find the information for the product actually being supplied

Technical documentation should identify the material in the order, not simply a familiar product family or a color name. For an aerosol inquiry, request the applicable Safety Data Sheet, product or Technical Data Sheet, and any approved repair instructions relevant to the application.

This page links to manufacturer resources and explains how to prepare a document request. It does not host an unverified universal IPD aerosol SDS. The correct document can depend on the supplied formulation and packaging, so a base coating’s document should not automatically be treated as the document for the filled aerosol.

SDS, product data and repair approval serve different purposes

DocumentQuestion it helps answer
Safety Data SheetWhat product-specific hazard, handling and storage information applies?
Product or Technical Data SheetWhat selection and application information does the manufacturer provide?
Repair specification or approvalWhat procedure and acceptance requirements govern this particular job?
Order and label recordWhich supplied material, color and batch are being discussed?

One document does not necessarily answer all four questions. A product description can establish the intended product category without approving its use on a particular customer’s coating system. Keep the product identity, application and project requirements together when requesting a review.

Carbocoat 8215 manufacturer information

IPD identifies Carbocoat 8215 as its default base coating. Carboline describes the product as an air-drying alkyd enamel used for direct-to-metal finishes and light-to-moderate industrial applications. The manufacturer’s product page provides access to its current listed product and safety documents.

Confirm the exact product being quoted. Carbocoat 8215, its VOC variant and other similarly named products should not be treated as interchangeable documents. Do not transfer coverage, drying or application figures from a bulk coating sheet to a filled aerosol without confirmation that the figures apply.

Powder-coating repair guidance

TIGER Coatings publishes guidance on touch-up materials and evaluating repairs to powder-coated surfaces. It is a useful reference for understanding why a liquid repair should be assessed against the original system rather than assumed equivalent.

For your job, obtain the guidance applicable to the actual powder product and intended repair. Our powder-coating touch-up page provides an inquiry checklist, not a replacement for manufacturer instructions.

What to include when requesting documents

  • Product name and supplier order number, if already purchased.
  • Color or customer part identifier shown on the label.
  • Batch information and a readable label photograph where available.
  • Original coating and substrate for a new application.
  • Delivery or use location and the document language required.
  • The specific question: handling, application, compatibility or project approval.

For an existing can, begin with its identifiers. For a proposed order, describe the application and ask the quote to identify the intended material. Avoid requesting “the gray paint SDS” when several products could fit that description.

Keep the document with the approval record

Record which document revision was reviewed alongside the approved material and order. If a product changes on a later order, review the applicable information again rather than assuming the earlier document still represents it.

Technical questions about the job should reach the responsible coating supplier, applicator or project specifier. To request information from IPD, prepare a technical-document inquiry or email the team with the identifiers listed above.
